Abstract

Human activities have had an impact on global warming due to greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas emissions resulting from industrial activities, transportation and human activities that use fossil energy sources. The purpose of this research is to analyze the increase of air temperature using CO2 and CH4 gas concentration data from 2010-2016, to know the effect of greenhouse gases on the increase of air temperature, and to analyze the most influential factors in increasing air temperature in Pekanbaru and Padang City. The research method used is survey method with assessment and processing of secondary data. The research results found that greenhouse gases in particular the concentration of CO2 gas affect the temperature rise in Pekanbaru and Padang City. The increase of air temperature in Pekanbaru City is 0.52 °C up to 0.61 °C higher than the temperature rise in Padang City 0,51 °C up to 0.60 °C. The correlation of CO2 gas concentration with temperature rise in Pekanbaru City influenced the increase of air temperature by 10.2%. Factors that affect the most increase in air temperature in Pekanbaru City is the number of vehicles and the number of hotspots whereas in the city of Padang temperature rise is influenced by the number of vehicles and the number of industries. Government policies are required in mitigation efforts to reduce the impact of increased greenhouse gas concentrations by tree planting, peatland management and zero burning land clearing

Abstract

This research was conducted in November 2015 until February 2016 located at Liung River waters Bantan District Bengkalis Riau Province with the aim to analyze the oil content in water and aquatic sediments, the structure of the plankton community and macrozoobenthos. The survey method was applied in this research with four research stations as sampling point. Samples were analyzed in the Laboratory of Ecology and Environmental Management of Water and Food Chemistry Laboratory of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences of the Riau University. The results showed that the oil content in water ranged from 0.225 to 0.325 ppm and in sediments ranged from 447.67 to 582.33 ppm. The high oil in the sediment is possible because the oil accumulates in the sediments that are affected by the current state. The abundance of plankton ranged from 1200 to 4266.67 cells/L and found 18 genera with index of diversity index (H') 2.5022 to 2.9477, dominance index (C) 0.1481 to 0.2524 and index of uniformity (E) 0.7533 to 0.9299. Similarly, the abundance of macrozoobenthos ranged from 55 to 82.33 Ind/m2 and found 10 genera with diversity index (H') 0.9169 to 2.2489, dominance index (C) 0.2231 to 0.5565 and index of uniformity (E) 0.9169 to 1. The regression analysis between oil content in coloum water with plankton abundance shows negative correlation (Y = 5811.383 – 10167.685X; R2 = 0.353; r = 0.594) and oil content in sediment with macrozoobenthos abundance also show negative correlation (Y = 120.923 – 932.202X; R2 = 0.511; r = 0.715).

Abstract

The behavior of the community or individual to manage waste in the sub-urban area of Rumbai Pesisir District are not lead to positive behaviors such as sorting, collection, disposal of garbage into temporary shelters. Public indifference of the garbage will result the degradation of environmental quality that will affect the people life quality, garbage piled will make flies breed thus allowing family members experiencing symptoms of diarrhea. The purposes of this research is to analyze direct and indirect effect between the behavior of waste management with the density of flies on the symptoms of diarrhea. Based on the results, there is the effect of garbage management behavior towards the density of flies, the better the waste management behavior the lower the density of flies on the contrary, if the behavior of waste management to the occurrence of flies is not good than the density of flies increased. There is the influence of the density of flies against diarrhea disease symptoms, the higher the density of flies the symptoms of diarrhea is increasing conversely the lower the density of flies then the lower the incidence of diarrhea symptoms. There is the influence of the simultaneous behavior of waste management and the density of flies against the symptoms of diarrhea, if the behavior of waste management better than the number density of flies will be lower and the symptoms of diarrhea diseases is getting lower on the contrary if the behavior of the waste management worse than the number density of flies higher and symptoms of diarrhea disease more increasing. This research advised to the community, for always maintain the cleanliness of the environment in their house to reduce or eliminate the breeding sites of flies. Additionally the community need to sorting, collection and disposal the garbage into temporary shelters, using the hood of food cover to reduce hazards of food contamination by flies

Abstract

The comparative research was conducted from October 2016 until January 2017 at two companies namely PT. AIP Teluk Siak Factory (TSF) and PT. BNS Mandah Factory (MDF) in Riau Province. The purposes of the research were to analyze the correlation between oil and palm kernel (losses) that is entrained fuel (fibers and shells) with opacity emissions boiler in TSF and MDF, and to analyze the impact of ambient air SO2 levels on capacity pulmonary function palm oil mill employees (TSF and MDF) with controll variables personel protective aquipment, age, smoking habits, and tenure.Based on the results, The correlation strength of oil loss in fiber cyclone, kernel loss in fiber cyclone, and kernel loss in winowing with boiler opacity in TSF and MDF is low correlation (R value of 0.320). The simultaneous and partial oil loss in fiber cyclone, kernel loss in fiber cyclone, and kernel loss in winowing were not significantly affect the boiler opacity in both factories (F test and t test of significance  > 0.05). R2 value of 10.2% indicates the magnitude of losses effect on opacity. This analysis explains that the losses are not the dominant factor affecting the boiler opacity. The boiler opacity is influenced by quality and balance fuel with oxygen, continuity process in mill and optimization of boiler performance as the operation practice, maintenance and boiler sparepart replacement. The impact of ambient air SO2 levels on capacity pulmonary function when controlled by age and tenure showed significant values (p < 0.05). Age and tenure are factors that differentiate magnitude of the impact of ambient air SO2levels on capacity pulmonary function. While the impact of ambient air SO2 levels on capacity pulmonary function when controlled by personel protective aquipment (PPE) and smoking habits did not show significant values (p > 0.05) in both factories. PPE and smoking habits are not factors that differentiate magnitude of the impact of ambient air SO2 levels on capacity pulmonary function.
